Read My Shirt!

It’s Read Me Week at our children’s elementary school!  It’s a week long celebration of one of my favorite subjects… READING!  Throughout the week the teachers have fun events planned for the kids like a door decorating contest, guest readers (I’ll be reading to my son’s kindergarten class tomorrow morning), daily reading trivia questions, and dress up days, which are really a treat since our public schools have a dress code.

Today is Read My Shirt Day!  It also happens to be the first day of after school tennis lessons for Luke.  Our P.E. teacher is a USTA tennis pro and offers tennis lessons after school in the spring and fall, and Luke is really excited about starting today.  Abby has taken lessons in the past, but she’s preoccupied with school musical rehearsals right now. :)  Conveniently enough for me they both meet at the same time!  Since this is Luke’s first year at school and his first Read My Shirt day I thought I’d pull out the Silhouette machine and make him a new shirt for the occasion!  It seriously is so easy with this machine!  I just came up with a phrase and bought a little tennis ball design for $.99 to create my shirt design.  The t-shirt was an old one from their drawer.  The flocked transfer material is navy blue and so fuzzy and soft… perfect for a little boy’s t-shirt.  The transferring process is as simple as ironing it on.  Viola!  We had the perfect shirt for Read My Shirt Day AND the first day of tennis.  The cherry on top is that Luke loved it, although you couldn’t tell from this photo.  This one cracks me up!

Do you have school-aged children?  Do they do anything special to celebrate reading at their school?
