I’ve been pretty scarce around here as of late, haven’t I? First, I took the month of July off. Except for a few pre-scheduled posts you didn’t hear from me for the whole month. I’m not going to lie- it was nice for my thoughts to be consumed with something other than blog posts. I was mentally preparing for a new journey, a couple of new journeys actually. Both of them are taking up a lot of my time.
Journey #1: Homeschooling my daughter.
This year my daughter entered the 5th grade, and rather than send her to the public middle school, we decided to pull her out of the school system and teach her at home. There are many reasons for this, and I’m happy to share them if you’re interested (just shoot me an email). It’s a huge sacrifice of time for me, as my days are now devoted to her education. I love it. So does she. I’m so glad that we made the decision to do it. It was scary, but the right thing to do. It feels especially right when we are sitting at the local coffee shop, enjoying our favorite hot beverages, while studying math, spelling, and history, as we were when I took this picture. Pure enjoyment, I tell ya!
She wasn’t the only one to start school though! My sons started school as well. Luke is in 1st grade this year, and I think he kind of likes the fact that it’s “his” school now, not his sister’s. We love this school, which is why she attended until this year. It’s K-4 and we plan on the boys attending through the 4th grade. He loves school. Every morning he has been up and at ‘em with a smile and a great attitude. What a great kid!
Last but not least, my youngest just started school today. It was officially his first day of school… Pre-Kindergarten. He has been waiting for this day for about 2 years, I kid you not. We made a paper chain a little over 3 weeks ago and he has dutifully removed a link each morning. He ran to me with his link and told me how many days there were until he started school. Yesterday he yelled, “I can’t believe it’s the twenty-tooth day!!!” (translation: the 22nd day) He is such a joy. Today was the big day and he was very, very excited!
And for your viewing pleasure, a little treasure that I dug up for a fellow blogger last night. This is my 3rd grade school picture. Note the ribbon barrettes and the double image. Very 80′s! I love it!
I’ll share about Journey #2 in another post. Those of you who follow my on Instagram might be able to guess what it is… anyone care to take a stab at it?
I hope you all are having a wonderful week, full of late summer sunshine and laughter! See you soon!
Here’s a fun tutorial from the archives for you to try in the meantime.
