Hi everyone! Welcome to The Southern Institute! I’m Jenny… wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. I’m a northern girl transplanted in the south, and I love it! I did not grow up in a DIY family. My mom never sewed or did crafty projects, and my grandmothers were not into handcrafting either. When I discovered blogs, about seven years ago, I was inspired by sewing tutorials that I saw and I thought, “I can do that”! I got out my sewing machine, which hadn’t been used in years, and started sewing! That was it for me, I was in love! I had caught that DIY spirit.

The Southern Institute is a place of inspiration for me and hopefully for you too. It’s a place for me to write about the projects that I’m working on, homeschooling my daughter, what it means to be a mother (the ups and the downs), and the other things that our family is passionate about, like our health and spiritual well-being. What I hope you find here is encouragement, in whatever stage of life you are in or road that you are walking.

Please grab a seat and a cup of coffee or tea and take a look around. As you navigate the link bar at the top of the page you’ll find a drop-down tutorials tab (that includes crafts, sewing, and knitting tutorials) and a recipes tab with more than enough delicious inspiration to last you for quite a while. We love essential oils in our family and use them for a variety of things so you’ll find plenty of information about their benefits and how you can get involved in the Oily Institute Community (The Southern Institute’s sister community). Oh, and I love my iPhone camera, so you’ll find a lot of photos. I just can’t help myself!

I hope you enjoy your time at the Southern Institute and that you visit often. I would love to hear from you, so if you ever have a question or just want to chat you can reach me at:

You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (my favorite place), and Pinterest.

Thanks so much for coming by!
