The 1st Day of School!

Okay, okay, okay.  I know.  Every mom blogger does this, but I couldn’t resist.  It’s the obligatory 1st day of school post.  This year was special because Luke just started kindergarten!  You can see in the photos how excited he is about it.  He idolizes his big sis and couldn’t wait to be a part of her world at school.

I just cannot believe that there are where they are!  The last year of elementary school for Abby, and the 1st for Luke.  Emotional for this mom, I bet you can relate.

Welcome Back and Another First For Abby.

Welcome back to the Southern Institute for Domestic Arts and Crafts! I hope that you have all had a great weekend… I know I enjoyed a break from the posting frenzy that was last week’s anniversary celebration!  Whether you just started following last week or you’ve been following for a while now, I want to say thank you all for making my first year of blogging so much fun.  Over the last several months this blog has morphed into a place where I love to spend time, sharing with you and getting to know you.  Your kindness and creativity inspires me, and it warms my heart each time I see a new comment that you have left.  Keep em’ coming, won’t you?  Now, I usually try to respond to as many comments as I can during the week, but last week it just wasn’t possible.  I apologize!  Last week was crazy fun!  


Over 100 new followers on Google Friend Connect, 
lots of new subscribers and followers on Twitter, 
almost 1200 comments!!!  
WOW!  That’s record breaking folks!

I think that you all had fun too, and that was my goal… to let you know how much I appreciate you!  I know you are dying to know who won all of the giveaways, I’m working on that.  You’ll know very soon, I promise!


So, as all of the fun was happening here in blog land, we had a big day here at the Southern Institute…

Abby’s first day of second grade!



Really… where did the summer go?  Where did the last seven years go???  It seems like yesterday that we welcomed our precious daughter into our arms.  We knew we were blessed, but we could not have known the extent of it.  Abby is a joy and we are so very proud of her.  She is one of those kids who wants to do her best at everything and has never (not ever) given us any trouble or reason to distrust her.  She truly is an amazing little girl.  

Abby welcomed the first day of school enthusiastically (as she welcomes every new challenge).  We have made it a tradition that the whole family takes her on the first day… and being seven, she is still happy with that.

She signed herself in, found her new locker, stowed away her pack, and greeted an old friend from 1st grade.

 

There are several things that she is really excited about this year.  

1.  No more tables!  This year she has her very own desk!
2.  Her class is known as the Cool Cats, and Abby is crazy about cats!
3.  Learning to write in cursive.
4.  Playing on the big kids playground… no more kindergarten/1st grade playground for her.
5.  (Perhaps the most exciting for this little bookworm) She can go to the school library every day if she wants to 
     AND check out two books at a time!


Another tradition is the “First Day of School Treat”!  To be eaten after school, which is a half day!
She forgot about this tradition and was she surprised!


I love this girl!  It’s the little things that make her so very happy.
I’m so excited to see her grow this school year.
It’s bittersweet, watching them grow isn’t it?
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her, but I just don’t like letting go.
